A senior manager who has risen from the ranks, is a company loyalist but has suffered from weak corporate exposure, weak corporate training and also has a strong opinion and a big ego is like a bull in a china shop to use a cliched phrase.
It is difficult to reason with such individuals because their bullying ways have been rewarded with success in the past. Further if they are surrounded by people who are threatened by this individual or prefer to be fence sitters or who want to be on what they perceive as the "boat that wont sink", the problem becomes an even bigger problem. The problem of the other cliched term " TEAM". More often than not, the other "team" members do not have strong credentials themselves. If that team were to be changed by adding other members with strong credentials, removing the weak ones, the power of the team will certainly become much bigger than the power of any one individual. It is only then that one can reason with the others, have healthy disagreements and fantastic debates leading to positive outcomes. My final cliche for the day "the (power of the) whole (team)must be greater than the sum of its individual parts." The role of the leader is to ensure that this happens and happens as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the organization is infected with a virus that can only spread and cause more harm if not curtailed in time.
