Talent vs. Experience

I need to coach this guy. Tremendous Talent. Thinks on his feet. Great Ideas. Tech Savvy. Reads up. Knows what the world is about... but... but... but... just cannot get his act together as far as people skills are concerned.

You see, once you are up there at the peak of the corporate ladder, you don't need talent.. at least not in the traditional sense of ideas, of execution, of hard work... You need only one skill... managing people... you have to manage up, down, sideways and every which way... You never know who is judging you, why they are judging you and how they are connected to your success, now and in the future... But one thing is for sure.. you are being judged... and you have a huge responsibility to kick your ego out of the way ( and yes, you have to "kick" it) and get your brains and your heart working together... because people are emotional, people are intelligent and my tip for you ----- "trust before you distrust" and " manage your relationships" ------- if you have good relationships you will get through very sticky situations because people "like" you. I agree, this isnt a popularity game and I am not telling you to be popular.  I just want you to "not piss off " people unless absolutely necessary. Or the other way to think about it is that take people along as far as you can or they can but make an honest attempt to do so... If you cannot beyond a point, well, don't do it. I do  not want you to lose yourself in your quest to build relationships.. But make an honest attempt... that's all I ask, my loves -- good relation ships is the basic key to success.. to your success and i want you to succeed !!
