Talent Portfolio

Just like a financial portfolio is designed to meet our financial goals and consists of different kinds of assets and some liabilities, a talent portfolio is designed to meet organization goals and consists of people who possess varying degrees of skills, competence, experience and attitude that would classify them as assets and unfortunately in some cases liabilities as well. Just like a financial portfolio needs to be reviewed periodically a talent portfolio also needs to be reviewed periodically because business is dynamic and so are people.

A talent portfolio must be viewed objectively and sans emotion to arrive at the right talent mix for the organization. This may mean taking some tough decisions on those who don't belong to that mix anymore. You are better off managing the impact of tough decisions quickly and smoothly. Keep in mind that it is very important to be extremely sensitive yet be decisive and firm. When an organization, business leader or HR leader arrive at a balanced portfolio of talent or imbalanced in favor of the best talent, everyone wins and you start creating a great place to work - Remember talent breeds talent and when you have a powerhouse of talent, you will have a powerhouse of ideas that will drive the business forward by leaps and bounds.
